Grade 9

HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING EDUCATION - PPL1OM (Male), PPL1OF (Female)
This course emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Students will learn movement skills and principles, ways to improve personal fitness and physical competence, and safety and injury prevention. They will investigate issues related to healthy sexuality and the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, and will participate in activities designed to develop goal-setting, communication, and social skills.

Grade 10

HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING EDUCATION - PPL2OM (Male), PPL2OF (Female)
This course emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Student learning will include the application of movement principles to refine skills; participation in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence, fitness, and health; examination of issues related to healthy sexuality; healthy eating, substance use and abuse; and the use of informed decision-making, conflict resolution, and social skills in making personal choices.

FITNESS FOCUS - PAF2OM (Male), PAF20F (Female)
This course is designed to meet the needs of students who are experiencing weight training for the first time. Physical fitness and good health will be provided through regular physical activity while learning weight training principles. Training offers you a chance to participate in a variety of fitness activities to improve your level of physical fitness. Health topics covered are the same as those in the PP120 course.

Grade 11

HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING EDUCATION - PPL30M (Male), PPL20F (Female)
This course offers activities ranging from team and individual sports to various leisure activities. This course emphasizes participation, skill development and understanding of rules and strategies of various activities. Health topics include reproductive health, healthy relationships, mental health, and personal safety.

FITNESS FOCUS - PAF30M (Male), PAF30F (Female)
This course is designed to meet the needs of students who are experiencing weight training for the first time. HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING EDUCATION - PPL40M (Male), PPL40F (Female)
This course focuses on the development of a personalized approach to healthy active living, through participation in a variety of sports and recreational activities. The health component includes the refinement of decision making, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills, and the enhancement of one's mental health and relationships with others.

FITNESS FOCUS - PAF40M (Male), PAF40F (Female)
In this course, students learn more about fitness and raise their level of personal fitness. Students are involved in ongoing fitness testing to monitor and evaluate fitness components, such as strength, endurance, and flexibility. This course may focus on weight training, aerobics or a variety of fitness activities.

EXERCISE SCIENCE - PSE4U (Co-Ed)
This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development. Topics include the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and factors influencing one's participation in physical activity. The course prepares students for university studies in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, nursing and life sciences.
