Grade 9

CORE FRENCH, ACADEMIC - FSF1D
This course emphasizes the further development of oral communication, reading, and writing skills. Students will build on and apply their knowledge of French while exploring a variety of themes, such as relationships, social trends, and careers. Thematic readings, which include a selection of short stories, articles and poems, will serve as stepping stones to oral and written activities.

CORE FRENCH, APPLIED - FSF1P
This course emphasizes the concurrent development of oral communication, reading, and writing skills, using a broad-based theme such as the media. Students will enhance their ability to understand and speak French through conversations, discussions, and presentations. They will also read short stories, articles, poems, and songs, and write brief descriptions, letters, dialogues, and invitations.

EXTENDED FRENCH, ACADEMIC - FEF1D
This course emphasizes the expansion of students' oral communication, reading, and writing skills through the study of themes that reflect their interests. Students will apply their knowledge of French in discussions, debates, dramatizations, and oral presentations. Students will read and write in a variety of genres (e.g., poems, articles, brochures) and study at least one short novel intended for a French-speaking audience.

Grade 10

CORE FRENCH, ACADEMIC - FSF2D
This course enables students to increase their knowledge of the French language, further develop their language skills, and deepen their understanding and appreciation of francophone culture around the world. Exploring a variety of themes, students will develop and apply critical thinking skills in discussion, in their analysis and interpretation of texts, and in their own writing.

This course emphasizes the further development of oral communication, reading, and writing skills using a broad-based theme such as adolescence. Students will expand their knowledge of French by studying a series of theme-related topics, such as students' rights and responsibilities, relationships with peers and adults, and part-time jobs.

EXTENDED FRENCH, ACADEMIC - FEF2D
This course emphasizes the continued development and refinement of students' oral communication, reading, and writing skills as they explore a variety of themes. Students will expand their knowledge and appreciation of francophone culture through the study and interpretation of novels, poems, and plays intended for a French-speaking audience.

SPANISH - LWS2AO
This beginning course stresses the acquisition of listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and representing skills, all within a communicative framework. Students are introduced to various aspects of contemporary life in Spanish-speaking countries in order to gain an appreciation of the Spanish language and culture.

This beginning course stresses the acquisition of listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and representing skills, all within a communicative framework. Students are introduced to various aspects of contemporary life in German-speaking countries in order to gain an appreciation of the German language and culture.

Grade 11

FRENCH - FSF3AO
This course is a continuation of the grade ten course. Students are expected to communicate in French at all times in class. The enjoyment of short films, television programs, music, magazines, newspapers, short stories, and maybe food are some of the activities that help the development of listening, speaking, writing, and reading skills. Francophone culture forms an integral part of the course. Interviews, oral presentations, and independent assignments are other ways of preparing students for taking an OAC course.

FRENCH, ENRICHMENT - FSF3AX/3AV
This course is designed to offer enrichment in reading, listening, writing, and conversational skills. It encourages creativity and the building of additional vocabulary through various activities such as skits, presentations, compositions, films, videos, puzzles, and making newspapers.

This course is a pre-OAC course. Students are expected to communicate in Spanish. They continue to develop their listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and representing skills through integrated language activities. Spanish culture forms an integral part of the course. Students develop skills required for interviews, oral presentations and independent assignments as a preparation for taking an OAC course.

Students develop skills required for interviews, oral presentations, and independent assignments as a preparation for taking an OAC course.

OAC

FRENCH - FSFOAO
The OAC level course is designed to extend students' knowledge and appreciation of the French language and culture. Short films, television programs, music magazines, newspapers, short stories, and maybe food preparation are activities that will help the development of listening, speaking, writing, and reading skills. Each student will be required to complete an independent study assignment. Since this may be the final French course in high school, all important grammar points are considered thoroughly.

SPANISH - LWSOAO
This OAC level course is designed to extend and refine students' knowledge and appreciation of the Spanish language and culture. Students will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Each student will be required to complete an independent study assignment. A variety of literary genres will be studied. The writing practice and the grammar exercises in this course will provide a solid foundation for post-secondary courses in Spanish.

This OAC level course extends and refines students' knowledge and appreciation of the German language and culture and contributes to their overall intellectual development and academic preparation. Students refine and extend the knowledge and skills that they bring to this course in listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, representing. Each student is required to complete an independent study assignment. A variety of literary genres will be studied.
