Minutes of February 9th, 2006

- Ty-Mac Update.
Ty-Mac Parents’ Music Association meeting was held on January 18th 2006 with an outstanding turnout. Dave Rowan (Executive Superintendent for the East Region) has decided to leave the "after school programs" as is. David Shory reported that this is indefinite until further review. Brian Rice was thanked for his continuing efforts concerning the music program. There will be a TDSB wide review to come. A centralized music instrument repair pilot project will be viewed for fall of 2006. Ty-Mac’s spring concerts to be held May 9th and 11th 2006. Music Banquet is to be held on the 25th of May 2006. Jazz social will be held on the 31st of May 2006. The Kiwanis festival will be taking place over the next two weeks. Fundraising is still an issue in the program. The raffle tickets will be sold prior to the spring concerts and the draw will take place on the second concert night.

- Sabrina’s Law
. An inservice will be given to all staff. Handout given to everyone at the meeting.
- Option selection week.
Selection week is February 13th- 17th. The option sheets for grade 8 students were delivered to Tyrrell. Information meetings and assemblies are to be held for Mac students regarding options. Bubble sheets will be done on February 27th. Calculus course codes will remain the same but the course content may change for next year.
- New courses.
There will be new ESL courses for next year. ESL A/B course will be run as a double program in semester style in order to fit all content in 4 years. There will be a Grade 9 Drama ESL course, grade 10 civics/careers ESL course, grade 11 racquet sports class, Auto Shop for grade 10-12, Auto Shop Engineering for grades 11 and 12, and a yearbook course. The number of teachers will stay fairly similar next year. There will be a maximum of 2 medallion credits per student. Advanced placement will require an exam for placement. Fees include $600 per teacher and $82 for exams.
New Business.
- Mac in Action.
Skating buyout to be held March 1st 2006.
- MACC.
Multicultural show to be held in the upcoming month.
- Blinds.
There will be new blinds for windows in approximately 12-15 rooms.
- Washrooms/caretaking.
Sean Torrie reported that there is still a concern with water pressure and soap in the washrooms. Patrick Abtan and Dave Rowan to discuss these concerns again with caretaking staff.
- Hall monitors.
David Shory reported that there will be $ 11 million in funds for more hall monitor hours. Patrick Abtan and Dave Rowan also report that they personally monitor halls periodically throughout the day.
- CUPE.
There is a possible CUPE strike that could begin as early as Tuesday.
- Speed limits.
Concerns re: the speed limit on Pharmacy (60 km) continue to be expressed. Ideally it should be decreased as it is a school zone. Follow-up will take place with Norm Kelly.
- Committees and meetings.
Scarborough work shop for parents to be held on the 29th of April. (9:30-3:00) 30 people per ward. Parent’s involvement committee - 2 parents per ward. French as a second language committee, parents needed. Contact Arlete for Information.
