Minutes of April 15th, 2004

Welcome and Introductions:
Jane welcomed all participants to the meeting

  1. Approval of the Agenda:
    The agenda was approved.
  2. Review of Minutes of February 26th, 2004
    Minutes approved.
  3. Correspondence: Received as submitted.

    2. French as a second language meeting: Tuesday, April 20, TDSB office, 140 Borough Drive
    3. EQAO information session meeting: Thursday, April 22, at 7:30-9pm, re literacy testing
    4. Parent/ Student Community Involvement meeting: Wed May 5th, 7 to 9pm, at Winston Churchill CI.
  4. Feedback from TDSB related community Meetings:
    Nothing to report at this time.
  5. Letter to Gerrard Kennedy:
  6. Buy a credit letter was sent to Gerrard Kennedy.

  7. Literacy Information/ School Initiatives:
  8. Staff provided report on programme to assist students in preparing for EQAO testing. Currently 81% of the students at MAC successfully complete the test.

  9. Principal’s Report:
    1. Staffing: MAC has been allocated 75.5 teaching staffing for 2004/2005. Staff will be confirmed by June 8th. The library will remain open on a daily basis, and guidance services will remain intact.
    2. The Toronto District School Board School Board at March 23, 2004: 2004-2005 Outlook for the TDSB/ Facility Issues and Declining Student Numbers/ School Improvements Planning, was distributed to meeting attendees.
    3. Assessment & evaluation: the TDSB is investigating a policy to ensure equitable assessment and evaluation programme. The principals of the north-east quadrant of the TDSB are already looking at this issue.
    4. The administrative support staff have organized the minutes of past school council meetings. The minutes are in a binder that is available in the office.
    5. The MAC Association of Canadian Culture presented a multi-cultural entertainment event. Kudos to the students & teachers who volunteered their time to organize the event.
    6. Congratulations to the grade 10 student, who is a gold medalist in the Canadian Cayley Math Contest. He will be participating in a one week excursion to the University of Waterloo, with other students from across Canada.

    1. End of year examination & events: A calendar of events for May/June was distributed at the meeting. Highlights are listed below.
